Plastic Surgery Safety: Risks and How to Minimize Them

    CANDYBy CANDYApril 18, 2024No Comments3 Mins Read

While most plastic surgery procedures are generally pretty safe, there are always risks to any surgery. The best way to lower those risks is to understand them and work with your surgeon to keep them as small as possible. If you encounter a surgeon that says there’s no risk, it’s better to go elsewhere and look for someone who’s honest with you about what could go wrong. Even a small risk should be talked about, so you know what to look for during the recovery period ศัลยกรรมเสริมจมูก.

    Infection Can Happen After Surgery

One of the biggest risks people face after plastic surgery, or really any kind of surgery, is the chance of infection. Anytime the skin is cut open, there’s the opportunity for bacteria to get inside the cut and cause an infection. While surgeons are very careful to keep the area clean and sterile during an operation, that doesn’t completely eliminate the risk. Once you’ve left the sterile field of the operating room, there’s a chance for infection to set in.

Most of the time, this is minor and easily treated if it happens at all, but it’s a risk of plastic surgery and should be something you’re aware of before you have an elective procedure. The best way to reduce the risk is to make sure you’re choosing a trusted surgeon such as Dr. Joel Aronowitz and taking good care of the surgery site while it heals. There are generally post-op instructions provided to help with that.

Damage to the Stitches is Possible

Another risk is damage to the stitches. If you put too much pressure or strain on stitches before the wound has healed, you could potentially cause them to break or loosen. That can result in the incision not healing as well as expected. Especially with a delicate procedure like plastic surgery, where you don’t want to have scars left behind, damage to the stitches can cause a significant problem. Taking care not to strain or stretch the area during healing can help.

Improper Wound Healing is a Concern

Sometimes, a wound simply doesn’t heal like it should. That could come from a medical condition or lifestyle choice that makes healing more difficult, or it could happen without an obvious reason. To reduce the chances that this will be a problem during your plastic surgery recovery, you’ll want to follow all the directions you’re given for before and after the surgery. If you smoke, for example, you may be asked to quit for a set period of time before surgery, to promote better wound healing.

    Follow Your Doctor’s Instructions

When you work with a professional such as Joel Aronowitz MD the best thing you can do for plastic surgery safety is to follow your doctor’s instructions and let them know right away if you see anything out of the ordinary during the healing process. When you know what to expect, you can catch a problem early and reduce any chances that it will become more serious.
