Things You Should Know About Wasps

    CANDYBy CANDYMarch 21, 2024No Comments3 Mins Read

There can be plenty of insects and animals that you want to get rid of when it involves Pest control in Rockville. Wasps are one of the most unpleasant flying pests that can be found all across the state, especially in the summer. Although wasps benefit from the environment in which they live, humans are at risk of receiving their stings, which are not only uncomfortable but can result in severe allergic responses and anaphylactic shock.

A wasp nest must be avoided or maintained to the greatest extent feasible if it is not in an area that significantly disrupts human activities.

Facts You Did Not Know About Wasps

    • Wasps and Bees–Are They Different?

Ensure that the insect species you are dealing with for pest control are wasps rather than highly vulnerable honeybees. The temperament of wasps is one of the main differences between them and bees, and the former is considered a pest. It is widely accepted that wasps are far more aggressive than bees.

Wasps are identified by their longer, more slender bodies and tiny waists. Furthermore,  wasps and bees both consume nectar, but wasps cannot convert nectar into honey. In the same way, the majority of wasp species are not known to help in plant pollination successfully, yet a small number of species do.

    • Types of Wasps

It might surprise you to know that both the yellow jackets and both hornets are actually the species of wasps. All are targets for rapid pest control because they are usually far more aggressive than bees. Hornets reside in huge, well-kept colonies. Their primary physical features are their size, which is generally significantly larger than that of other wasps, and their coloration, which tends to be reddish-brown or black and white.

    • Wasp nests

The eradication of the nest is the ultimate goal of wasp control. Interfering with the nest itself is a dangerous activity; thus, this should only be attempted if it is causing an ongoing issue for humans nearby. Wasps usually create swarms to defend their nests because they are highly protective of them.

    • Wasp colonies

Depending on the species, a colony of wasps can have 1,500–15,000 members inside it, all of which are settled by a single productive female. The goal of pest control is to eliminate the colony by removal of the nest. Three distinct kinds of wasps usually occupy a colony: the worker females, the drone males, and the queen.

    • Wasp Food Sources

Wasps are attracted to sweet food sources like nectar, sugar, honey, and fruit, much like bees are. Indeed, they have been known to steal copious amounts of honey from beehives periodically. Wasps’ diet causes them to construct their nests, often next to outdoor patios, picnic areas, and any location where they can find open trash cans.
